Our latest legislative report comes directly from the Maine State Legislature. The PDF attached to this blog post contains a
chart outlining the current status of all bills considered by HCIFS during the First Regular and First Special Session.
A few notes about the current status of the committee’s bills:
11 bills were enacted yesterday and are pending final action by the Governor:
9 bills were moved off of the Special Appropriations Table and enacted—LD 163, LD 178, LD 697, LD 784, LD 874, LD 1100, LD 1361, LD 1687 and LD 1906; and
2 bills were moved off of the Study Table and enacted—LD 1578 and LD 1615;
1 bill (LD 893) has been carried over in the Senate;
5 bills have been carried over on the Special Appropriations Table (LD 105, LD 107, LD 355, LD 582 and LD 1496);
1 bill (LD 1286) has been carried over on the Study Table;
1 bill (LD 1761) has been committed to JUD and carried over; and
15 bills have been carried over in HCIFS.
The deadline for the Governor to sign bills is July 7, 2025. Because the Legislature has adjourned sine die, if the Governor does not sign one of the 11 bills enacted yesterday, the bill becomes law if the Governor does not veto it within three days after the next reconvening of that Legislature. This is commonly referred to as a “pocket veto”.
