Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I want to share some news with you about our organization.
At our June meeting, we officially adopted our new name, National Association of Benefits & Insurance Professionals-Maine Chapter, in keeping with the guidelines of the National Association. The change from Maine Association of Health Underwriters is meant to reflect the daily activities of our members more clearly. Most of you probably don’t remember when our profession included sales and field underwriting. That’s in the past so we needed a name that tells the public what we do now.
If you are in the health and employee benefits business, I’m sure you are aware of the many challenges we are facing in our profession - continually updated and new regulations for employers, both on the State and Federal levels; rising healthcare costs; initiatives within our own state to consider single-payer health insurance and new benefit mandates for health plans, are just a few. NABIP is working hard to protect the private insurance market and advocate for sensible health reform, but all the work is not being done in Washington DC.
However, much of what affects us in Maine is happening in Augusta so it’s more important than ever that we have a voice speaking on our behalf at our State Legislature. With a dedicated group of volunteers, we have established a credible presence in the State and our input is being actively solicited. An updated list of applicable legislation with explanations and memos of support or opposition can be found on our new updated website: nabipme.org.
As far as education, we have, since 2016, consistently offered meetings with high caliber speakers, including the Superintendent of Insurance, representatives of the State’s leading insurers, and benefit administrators to our growing membership. Most of these presentations include valuable CE credits. What better way is there to stay informed and make a difference in your future than to be part of the premier association representing health insurance professionals in Maine? We invite you to attend our member meetings. There is no cost to attend.

Best Regards,
Kimberly Vance
